Since its creation in 1986, Ballet Magnificat! has earned an international reputation for excellence. Under the direction of founder and artistic director Kathy Thibodeaux, silver medallist at the 1982 USA International Ballet Competition, Ballet Magnificat!’s mastery of dance rivals that of any other professional company. Headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, the companies perform over 180 times annually throughout the world. Dancers have included former members of Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal, Spokane Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, the State Theatre of the CzechRepublic, Oldenburgishes Staatstheater of West Germany, Ballet Mississippi, Eternia Dance Theater of Sweden, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and the HoustonBalletAcademy.

You do not want to miss America’s premier Christian ballet company, Ballet Magnificat! performing April 24thand 25that The Summit Church, 6600 Crystal Hill Road, North Little Rock. Ballet Magnificat! will be performing The Scarlet Cord, April 24thand Deliver US!, April 25th. Both performances will begin at6:00pm. The Scarlet Cordis a dramatic story of two underground missionaries who share the Lord Jesus in the cruel and repressive communist Russia. Deliver Us!is the Ballet Magnificat! classic of Moses set to the music of The Prince of Egypt. These performances are guaranteed to captivate the audience with a kaleidoscope of movement, lights and sound. Both performances are free but require a reservation available by calling 501.758.4822. Ballet Arkansas will present its spring performance,
“4byFour” on April 24th and 25th at Wildwood Park for the Performing Arts, 20919 Denny Road in Little Rock.“4byFour” will be comprised of four ballets featuring the company members and its junior company. Named in Dance Magazine as one of the top 25 to watch in 2009, guest choreographer Kiesha Lalama-White has specially created for Ballet Arkansas the world premiere of "Pressing On.” Ms. Lalama-White’s credits include teaching master classes at Cirque Du Soleil, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago and Carnegie Mellon University. Her original full-length jazz piece for Point Park University entitled “Jolt” was featured in Dance Spirit magazine. The remaining three ballets will feature original works choreographed by Ballet Arkansas’s Artistic Director, Arleen Sugano, two of which will also be world premieres. "Love Stories" will feature the Professional Company with live accompaniment provided by the composer, pianist Clark Erickson. "LaCitsym" danced to Simple Symphonyby Benjamin Britten will feature the Junior Company accompanied by the Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra conducted by Geoffrey Robson. The final piece, "Kisetsu" (The Seasons), met by rave reviews when premiered in Little Rock in 2007, will close the program.

Following last year’s successful debut, the department is offering a series of highly varied and exciting new works in this year's Spring Dance Concert.
The stunning program has been developed by faculty choreographers Stephanie Thibeault, Nancy Happel, and Rhythm McCarthy, by Chinese guest artist Shouze Ma, and by recent UALR graduate, Aeren Bates. It will showcase student and faculty performers in dances that range from the whimsical to the striking and test the limits of movement and imagination. Come fly with us in April!
